The discoverers and first inhabitants were indigenous. It is said that the name of the island comes from “Cemaco” indigenous cacique from time of the European invasion.
Most of the houses are close to the shore. According to the 2010 National census, its population was 474 people living in 114 homes. Most of the population lives in Platanares community (one of the 3 major population centers of the island) the place where you will go.
With the local people we can better understand the history of the occupation of the island and find answers to essential questions of the reality of a sector of particular relevance for conservation in the Panamanian Pacific side. The way out to Platanares community and return to Cebaco Sunrise will be by boat.
